Emma's...

Emma Bridal Wear is situated in Liverpool Old Swan, 20-30 minutes from the city centre. Emma's has established an excellent reputation, the shop has been running for 30+ years. It has built up a large cliental base with generations of families coming back to the shop, also upon recomendations due to the service from staff, wide variety of choice and price ranges to suit everyone.
The owner of Emma bridal Wear & Tiffany Couture has always had Fashion shops from in her twenties, she used to make Holly Communion Gowns, and later started in the bridal business, when she first started she made some of the wedding gowns now they are just all bought in. It is a small, local business which is family run. Emmas is open 7days a week, Monday-Saturday 10am-5pm Sunday 12pm-4pm. Emma's stocks again wedding gowns, bridesmaids dresses, flower girl dresses and accessories as mentioned previously but also has a mens department.  Emma's consists of basement menswear department, ground floor bridal gowns and bridal accessories, first floor staff room & bridesmaids & flower girl dresses, third and final floor stock room & sewing room.

Tiffany's...

I have a work placement in two bridal stores the first:

Tiffany Couture: situated  in a prime location on two main roads, near a junction. Tiffany couture has been established for 6 years now, previously the shop was an art shop. It has been refurbished since the owners bought the business.

Tiffany's is all on one floor, from outside the shop looks smaller than it actually is inside, rather deceptive! The interior is luxurious, a rich purple carpet with purple velvet changing room curtains, neutral ivory walls and a draped cannopy with chase-long and two arm chairs in the extension, then you walk through to the bridal room with the pale pink walls, and stunning free standing mirror. Tiffany's has a relaxed, calm ambiance. Staff are friendly, attentive and approachable.

Tiffany's stocks Wedding Gowns & Bridesmaids dresses, flower girl dresses,  as well as accessories such as: balleros, jackets, shoes, bags, tiaras, head dresses, veils and jewelry such as necklaces, earrings and bracelets. Tiffany Couture is open Tuesday-Saturday 10am-5pm.

You don't ask you don't get...

... The last three summers I have gained a work placement in a Bridal Shop called : Tiffany Couture  on the Wirral in Liscard as well as working in the owners other shop in Liverpool Old Swan called: Emma Bridal wear (Emma's).

It was a bit of a networking how I came to gain this placement. I was in my final term on my Foundation Course at Wirral Met College I'd chosen the textile pathway and my sewing machine kept jamming & breaking I got it fixed, the guy who fixed my machine was speaking to me and he told me his daughter was at university studying fashion design in manchester and she had to do a placement year and she worked in a bridal shop in Manchester (none related to either shops I am at). At the time I was applying for uni and realized that experience is valuable part of learning. The guy who fixed my machine, fixed the hoovers and machines for my boss he told me her name and worked in the same row of shops as her.

I plucked up the courage and went into the shop asked for the owner and explained I wanted to gain experience, I handed in my c.v, I didn't hear anything but persistence payed off as I then phoned up and she asked me to come in the following Saturday.

I arrived early and I was given some stockiest brouchers to look at and was told to look at two websites and to come back the following Saturday. Unknown to me this brief chat was my informal 'interview'. That Friday evening I re watched 27 dresses, I was unsure what to expect, was excited and nervous. I arrived again early, I then was basically told to just watch & I would learn as I'd go along. I shadowed my boss. Unknown to me this was my trial shift, I chatted getting to know my boss and the business and her myself as we changed every hanger on each and every bridal gown! I was scared to lift these stunning and expensive precious gowns rather in ore of them. To think I found one gown heavy when I first started!

The first few shifts working with my boss was interesting, fun but rather hard as I had to just watch and learn and if customers asked me questions I didn't know the answers and felt silly but I was learning and fast and came up with phrases, sayings to overcome such as, "i'll just check for you".

After proving I could be trusted with cash and customers I was then left to work alone, also given a key and the responsibility to open and lock up the shop alone! It's a responsibility that I am proud of!

with love,

Fashion Campaign

Final Major Project Uni Semester 2.

I started off with the idea of Seven Deadly Sins, this theme I came up with in first year semester 2, I decided I wanted my work to be more than just a photo shoot based on a theme after all it's ment to be a Fashion Campaign! I worked with some great girls on a location shoot the other week in Wigan, we exchanged contact details & will definitely work together again the are amazing models, they can dance, do gymnastics, and acrobatic/ariel arts can get into character when given a role are amazing models. I came at the project sideways in the sense I had found my model before my theme, I then started to look into dance, movement, pose/poise, flexibility. I look at the current big hit film Black Swan which I have seen at the cinema not so long ago although I am going to re watch it for research. She has to dance both the black & the white swan, this is very challenging as she has perfected the white swan but the black swan is not in her nature yet the white swan comes more naturally as it's more like her personality, where as the black swan is spontaneous carefree. She strives for perfection until she perfects both the black & the white swan.

I decided to use this as my starting point, my theme and concept for my Final Major Project is going to be :

Striving for Perfection.
How everyone in one way or another is striving for perfection, how no one is perfect and how imperfections is what makes everyone different, individual and everyone has there own identity as they are real. I am going to post any links, images, videos that relate to my FMP- some research will be on here & some in my sketchbook.

to be continued....
