Flora-FlowerFootwear

Flower Footwear, we were asked to created shoes out of flowers, in my research I had looked at flower’s life cycle from a seed until death, I explored seeds and bulbs, pressing flowers and dying flowers, and I also looked at fake flowers. When creating my shoes I wanted to attempt to capture these stages. I created my first shoe from fake flowers to represent the live, living flowers it is based on one of my favourite pair of high heels and the shoe is life size. The second shoe is based on a ballerina shoe, slipper again made from false flowers representing the living. The final shoe is based on the flowers dying and I used dried flowers to create a wedge style of shoe, which is slightly smaller than the first shoe but also life size,

Step into a fairytale. The shoes are an arty creation not to be worn. They are unique and fit into my theme of ‘Weird & Wonderful’; I have been told they look like Tim Burton, Tim Walker style- very out there, creepy and fun. Which I am proud, as I love both Walker and Burton’s work. My work seems to have that intriguing, strange and erry feel, It is mysterious, unknown, playful and vampish, these themes can be identified throughout most of my work this was unintended & done subconsciously but now I feel that my style has been recognized and am happy about this. I have my own original ‘Weird & Wonderful’ way of working.

VW

For the build brief we had to create a 3D object to represent a brand that we choose.
The brand that I choose to rebrand was Vivienne Westwood,
I like that she is original, very out there and quirky. I admire that she taught herself
How to make clothes from scratch and like the punk, rock chick style that mainly she
Is responsible for. Her logo is the orb I started off trying to make my own version,
Interpretation of her logo and then decided as it is a rebrand it would have to be
Something new and different to represent her. Throughout my research into VW I
Found she uses a lot of skulls and as she started the punk, rock chick style I thought it is definitely apprapopraite to use a skull as the symbol, 3D object as the rebrand.
My first attempt I used mod-rock casting a friend’s head to create a skull and covering it in tartan and fishnet fabric, as these are stereotypical VW attributes. I decided the fabrics were too obvious. The teeth are wrapped in gold foil as for VW first collection she wrapped her teeth in the gold foil of a cigarette packet which not many people would know the reason

Behind it and I like having the personal link to the brand. My second skull works better as pink is not a typical colour VW would use but the tissue paper I used has her gold logo (but this is not obvious unless you look closely) printed on it as it is paper from her store The bow is made from ribbon from her store with subtle yet stereotypical safety pins echoing the punk era, I added false eyelashes as I wanted to make it more of a girly contrast to the chains and safety pins a juxtaposition that I think work well.
